Please call the office to arrange for an Enforcement Officer to discuss your requirements. ******************************************************** This office is responsible for implementing the NYS Building and Fire Codes, maintaining NY Property Maintenance Codes as well as the Town of Poestenkill Code. SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS: One of the most critical aspects of Code regulations and inspections is the requirement regarding detectors. These save lives. Remember to change your batteries on a regular basis. New York State Code mandates smoke detectors in every bedroom and in the hallway and on each floor level including the basement. The carbon monoxide detector is required on the lowest level where there is a bedroom. FIRE PREVENTION: Regarding wood stoves and gas stoves - BE SURE THEY ARE PROPERLY VENTED AND KEPT CLEAN. Keep proper distances of combustible materials. Don't forget to extinguish candles and never leave them unattended. IN GROUND POOLS: In ground pools must be enclosed with a minimum of a four (4) foot high fence with a self locking gate. ABOVE GROUND POOLS: Above ground pools must have a removable ladder. If the entrance to the pool is from a deck, then the deck must have a removable stairs or locking gate. All pools in New York State are required to have an alarm.
